DGruwier Subpixel Textures

2 ratings

This is a collection of subpixel patterns, based on microscope photo references of real world displays. They can be used to create realistic shaders for all kinds of displays, from old CRT monitors to modern smartphone screens. There are 30 textures, and a bonus texture set for LED video wall type displays.

Each pixel in a color display consists of three subpixels, one for each primary color in RGB. They often have interesting and unique designs that can be seen when you get very close, and this pack lets you implement those designs in your own displays. From a distance you get realistic moiré patterns from the pixels, and moving closer you can see each pixel resolving into its component colors.

There is a basic guide included to help you get the mapping correct, matching each subpixel texture with a pixel in your image. The basic setup is very simple, and it can be implemented in nearly any modern render engine, including game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity.
